He received his first hockey stick at age six, and quickly became a star player. He won his first Stanley Cup at the age of twenty-one, and went on to win four more Stanley Cup championships during the 1980s. He is regarded as one of the greatest players in NHL history, winning the first of his four Hart Trophies as the league's most valuable player in 1981, two Art Ross Trophies as points leader in scoring in 1984 and 1988, three Ted Lindsay Awards as the most outstanding player as voted by his peers in 1985, 1987 and 1989, and one Lester B.
